1. Information We Collect

When you use The Chicago List, we may collect the following:

• Account information — your name and email address when you sign in.
• User-submitted content — menu items and prices you contribute to the database.
• Device location — used only to show nearby restaurants on the map and calculate distances. Location is processed on-device and is never stored on our servers.
• Usage data — anonymous analytics such as which filters or categories you use, to help us improve the app.

2. Device Permissions

• Location (Precise) — requested to center the map on your position and filter restaurants by distance. You can deny this permission; the app will still work but will default to a Chicago city-center location.
• Camera / Photos — requested only when you choose to upload a photo as proof of a menu price. We never access your camera without an explicit action from you.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To display your submitted menu items and track your contribution stats.
• To show restaurants near your location on the map.
• To process subscription payments securely via Stripe (for restaurant owners).
• To improve app features based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

• Stripe — for payment processing (restaurant owner subscriptions only).
• Google Maps — to render the map and geocode restaurant addresses.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Your account data and submitted menu items are stored as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Profile tab. Upon deletion, your data is removed from our systems within 30 days.
